Week Fifty-Two:
Noticing What Moves You
Walking through Central Park the other day, I noticed how deeply moved
I am by the brilliant greens that have emerged in recent weeks. The colors
nourish me well beyond my visual sense. In the same way, the birdsong
I experience each morning touches me well beyond the delight I find in
the sounds themselves. The colors and the sounds reach inside and support
a fundamental sense of well-being I seem to tap into each morning as I
cross the park.
My experience got me to wondering what colors and sounds touch you, or
support your sense of well-being, as you move through your day. For this
weeks experiment, Id like to invite you to pay attention to
the particulars in your environment sights, sounds, tastes, textures,
or smells that touch you in positive, nourishing ways. For example,
what colors, in particular, move you just about every time you encounter
them? What sounds never cease to touch you, no matter where you are when
you hear them? A friend of mine lives across the street from a church,
and the sound of the bells that ring each hour bring with them a sense
of lightness and hope.
As you move through the week, have fun with this experiment. Theres
no work to do. Just be aware, taking the time to notice when you feel
moved by a color, sound, flavor, or fragrance that happens to come your
way as you move through the day. Remember that your best friend in these
experiments is a healthy, open curiosity and sense of delight.
