Week Ninety-Four:
Seeking Healing Outcomes
In a meeting with my “psycho-spiritual consultant”, a man
who offers me many insights along the way, we talked about outcomes that
represent healing from conflict, challenges, or difficulties of any kind.
His approach is to have a clear picture of a goal in mind, holding an
image or idea of how healing of the particular situation would look once
it was accomplished, and then to put it away and not think about it anymore.
He went on to say that, once the healing outcome is envisioned, no energy
at all is to be given to how that the situation might get to that healed
place, including what elements might be involved in creating that healing,
or in any way attempt to preconceive how the situation would get from
where it is now to the imagined healed state. In fact, he emphasized the
importance of staying out of the way of the healing process, as we can
only know what we know already and can’t begin to encompass the
world of possibilities available to any healing endeavor. I agreed with
him completely, as I have found that the most powerful healing experiences
for me have come at those times when I’ve been able to completely
hand over outcomes, after stating or imagining my intentions.
I also remember my grandmother, who was a healer, telling me never to
become attached to the outcomes of any healing intervention or practice.
Her advice, also, was to do whatever was needed to support healing and
then let everything go – to get out of the way so that healing could
happen in whatever ways were possible.
And so, the theme of this week’s experiment is to invite you to
be aware of outcomes you seek, situations that need resolving or healing,
and to affirm that healing will happen. Then, let it all go and allow
healing to find its way, no matter how the process may appear on the outside.
Allowing this to be an ongoing experiment can remind you to hold curiosity
as your companion, and to continue to leave judgments and assumptions
open until you see how the situation unfolds. You might even notice the
difference between allowing things to find their own way to envisioned
outcomes as compared to those times when you work hard to make things
work out a certain way. Sometimes we need to be more active than at other
times, and it’s useful to get a feel for which are those times when
you want to do something, and which are those times when it’s more
important to hand it over and get out of the way.
As with all experiments, allow this to be fun – to be an exploration
into what’s possible, what feels right to you, what empowers your
daily experience.
