Synchronicity Visited and Revisited |
| |
|
Over the years, I've written many times about the power of synchronicity in our lives to bring us not only what we need but also to offer us a "wink" from the universe from time to time. I had an experience recently that brought home the incredible qualities inherent in synchronistic events, if we will allow ourselves to notice and respond.
I was invited to a large party, celebrating some wonderful events, and had no sense if I would know anyone there. When I walked into the reception room, I connected with two women - both within my age range and comfortable to hang out with. One woman and I kept saying we thought we knew each other, but we couldn't place from where. Later that evening, during dinner, I asked the friend of this woman if she knew a couple I had many interactions with years and years ago. After a moment of stunned silence, the woman sitting next to me told me that *she* was the person I was asking about! We haven't seen each other in more than 27 years, and we simply didn't recognize one another until I finally asked about her, using her full name.
After what was a very long time of laughing and hugging, I marveled at how we came together at this particular party, where there was no direct connection between how she knew these people and how I knew them. Neither of us had any reason to expect the other to be there, especially since this woman lives many hours north of where I do.
The thing I walked away with, and that is with me still, is the impeccable nature of how synchronicity works in our lives. This particular woman has a deep interest and experience in an area that I am currently deepening and developing, and we will be resources to one another in what we both are engaged in at this particular time in our lives.
And so, for this week's experiment, I invite you to pay attention to how synchronicity dances with you in your daily life. Take time to notice what you might ordinarily call "coincidences" and pay more attention to what they touch in you, what they mean for you. For example, notice if there was something you were thinking you needed and then it appears. Or, you thought of someone and there they were. These experiences are happening all the time and, when we pay more conscious attention to them, they emerge even more.
As with all the experiments, I hope you will enjoy playing with this one. I often think of synchronistic events as postcards from home, winks from the universe, reminders that there is a bigger picture unfolding all around us. Please remember to bring along curiosity as your constant companion and to perhaps put doubt on the back burner as you explore this week's experiment.
