Week Twenty-Seven:
Drawing
on Sources of Inspiration
As Ive moved through recent weeks, and dealt with the variety of
feelings Ive had, I have found myself moved to seek out more sources
of inspiration and spiritual nourishment. Music, reading, meditating,
meeting with friends and colleagues, gathering in places of worship
all have drawn me over these weeks as ways of tapping into comfort and
a deepened sense of ease.
For this weeks experiment, I invite you to spend a little more time
than usual engaged in activities that feed your spirit, that nourish a
sense of connection, comfort, ease, enlightenment whatever kind
of support you may need at this time. Whether you feel drawn to a church,
synagogue, mosque, meditation center, or other spiritual context
or into nature, time with friends, volunteer activities allow yourself
to experience whatever nurtures inspiration, hope, optimism, and meaning
in your life. A visit to a museum, watching nature shows, looking at beautiful
photographs or views, going to a concert, on a walk, simply sitting on
the porch and breathing fresh air all present potential opportunities
to renew your spirit and refresh yourself.
Its all too easy to get caught up in the intensity of news reports
and unknown sources of potential catastrophes. Instead of being swept
along, use this weeks experiment to make choices about the kind
of psychological food youre willing to give yourself, and be sure
to include some inspiration among the mix. As with all experiments, there
are no shoulds here. Please allow yourself to explore
what works, throw away what doesnt, and give yourself the gift of
choice.
