Week Thirty-Two:
Resonating with What Has Meaning for You
One of the important
aspects of my morning meditation is at the beginning, when I call to mind
spiritual resources and align myself with them for the day. I think of
this as a process of attunement, but it could as easily be called prayer,
symbolic visualization, or invocation. When Im beginning a work
day, for example, I might align myself with the healing wisdom available
in the collective consciousness of humanity as a whole, across all time,
from all cultures and traditions, as well as whatever spiritual sources
of healing are available to me. I might also attune myself to the essence,
or spirit, of compassion. I think of these resources as dynamic, energetic
tones or frequencies, and I want to resonate with them throughout
the day. When I spend time with loved ones, I might begin the day attuning
myself to the quality and frequency of the energy or spirit of affection
and, also, delight. Then, during the day, I call to mind the qualities
and frequencies I attuned to in the morning, and they again come alive
for me.
This is a way of using intention to choose a particular stance
with which to greet and move through the day. Because we cant control
most of what comes our way, its useful to know that we can choose
how we will meet and move through lifes daily challenges and experiences.
Attuning ourselves to particular qualities and ways of being is one means
of doing this. Intentions are like magnets, and creating the intention
to attune to particular energies, frequencies, and resources makes us
magnetic to these qualities and brings them alive in our daily experience.
When attuned in this way, our spontaneous responses and reactions emerge
infused with these qualities, and can support our engaging events in ways
that feel more empowered.
This weeks experiment invites you to take a moment each morning
to choose the qualities with which youd like to resonate during
the day, and to consciously identify the sources of inspiration and comfort
youd like to carry in your awareness. Think of it as shifting your
frequency to a particular tone, as you might tune a radio to a particular
station. In the same way as different kinds of music create different
moods, certain thoughts and images create their own, unique responses.
Salsa music makes many of us want to dance. Classical music may inspire.
In the same way, attuning to various sources of spiritual inspiration
and comfort allows us to choose the qualities we wish to bring into our
lives in an active and dynamic way.
